The president of CEPYME, Gerardo Cuerva, has highlighted the role of companies and the business organizations that represent them in economic and social progress and has valued the work they carry out in defense of the company, the dignity of the entrepreneur and freedom.

If organizations do not defend the company, who will?” Cuerva pointed out, -evoking the words of the former president of CEOE, José María Cuevas-, during his speech before the General Assembly of the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (CEPYME), held today in Madrid.

In his speech, the president of CEPYME has taken stock of the year, highlighting the situation in which small and medium-sized companies find themselves, after which he has described as “one of the hardest periods in the recent history of Spain”, in which some very adverse external conditions have come together, “an acute inflationary crisis that is far from over despite the latest moderation in prices, a Spanish government whose decisions, from the increase in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage, to the increase in social contributions, have done nothing but harm the normal functioning of the companies; and a climate of rarefiedness and harassment against the company that unexpectedly left the Government of Spain itself”.

For this reason, he has insisted on the need for the government that emerges from the polls on July 23 to change course and place the company among its priorities, because “It is impossible for Spain to grow and be competitive —which is the real challenge for our country— if it is its own government that attacks companies, carries out interventionist policies, introduces confiscatory taxation or limits business freedom itself”. And he has asked the organizations for courage to firmly defend the freedom of the market and pro-business measures, and not wait for “some party to pick them up if we do not demand them.””.

Among these adverse decisions for the company, Gerardo Cuerva has focused on the recent creation of the Observatory of Business Margins, which he has considered to be “pernicious because it stigmatizes the obtaining of benefits”. Under these conditions, it has been asked “who is going to create companies and how are we going to attract investment; how are we going to finance innovation, job creation, entrepreneurship, when the same government has decided to monitor the benefits and decide how much or little benefit is”.

In this sense, he has removed the need to defend the company, which is the priority objective for business organizations. He has advocated for business unity and for strong business organizations, valuing their role in the last half century as guarantors of social peace, the modernization of economic and social structures and builders of the creation of the most favorable environment for companies. of the different sectors and territories. “That is the model of business organizations in which I believe,” Gerardo Cuerva pointed out.

In this sense, the strong growth in the number of CEPYME members experienced in the last year has been highlighted. Specifically, the General Assembly held today has approved the integration of a total of 12 business organizations:
