What I have in front of me when I wake up is the title of Geri’s second EP, the project of the garrote musician, singer and songwriter Gerard Garriga. The work, which will be published next Friday 9 February by the Girona label Metz Records, contains a total of five cuts with which Les Planes d’Hostoles seek to have “continuity” to keep growing. “The aim of this EP is to work with new rhythms and not to repeat formulas. If I make music it’s because I want to bring out what I have inside and at the same time to play and be creative» adds the singer.

Continuing with the structure used in his first album, And if the breakup is part of the relationship? (2022) and in his previous EP, Flors blanques (2022), Garriga again plays with the lyrics and the meanings hidden behind his songs. If in the case of his first full-length he told a bittersweet love story but with a happy ending and in his first EP he addressed the reunion of love, on this occasion he traces the warm uncertainty that can mean the fact of starting the ‘adventure of living with the partner. However, its author assures that the meaning of the EP’s title can be understood after listening to its five cuts: “I like to give a common meaning to the subjects that are part of the same disc. In a certain way, it could be understood as a kind of romantic comedy».

Expanding the range of rhythms

Although it could be said that his proposal continues to be included within the urban music scene, the truth is that Geri’s will is to continue exploring territories, opening doors and playing with all kinds of rhythms and genres, without closing you wear “In What’s in front of me when I wake up there’s dancehall, quite daring trap, and even a track, Sense rumb, made with guitars, my voice and some drums, which aims to offer an introduction to what I want to do» explains the garrotxí. The EP, produced and recorded by Garriga himself at home, is completed with Desfet, a song with a strong electronic base that he released as a single last summer.

With this new recording reference, Geri, who currently resides in Girona where he studies sound, takes another step in an upward trajectory. In fact, in 2022 he was already able to taste the honey of success thanks to Sidecar, a track that was chosen as the song of the week by the iCatFM station and which has reached 80,000 listens on Spotify. Garriga also appreciates the sweet moment experienced by the urban scene sung in Catalan, which “doesn’t stop growing”, with names like Figa Flawas, The Tyets or Girona’s Pol Bordas.
