German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said that Germany will face a transport collapse if it immediately refuses Russian fuel. Earlier, the United States banned the import of Russian energy carriers, and the UK announced that it would refuse Russian oil and oil products by the end of 2022.
“A third of our oil imports come from Russia. If we stop them immediately, we will not be able to move around Germany in the coming days,” Ms Burbock said on BILD Live.
She stressed that the West and allies must “ensure the maximum isolation of Putin”, for which it is necessary to use measures that are effective for the whole world.
Earlier, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the EU does not intend to ban energy imports from Russia, but is considering possible alternatives to Russian gas.
Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24 by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Western countries have imposed tough sanctions against Russia in response to this decision.
