German Foreign Minister urged to “take a clear position” on “Nord Stream-2” – RBK

The chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Bundestag, Norbert Röttgen, called on the new German foreign minister, Annalena Berbock, to “take a clear position” on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, according to Welt.

“It is impossible to imagine that Nord Stream 2 would be launched if Russia really attacks Ukraine,” he said.

According to him, in the situation around Ukraine, it is extremely important for the West to take a unified position and “resist the Russian escalation, threatening the most severe economic sanctions.”

Röttgen believes that Germany should continue its dialogue with Russia. “But dialogue should not be used in German foreign policy as a cover for inaction. Our international partners rightly expect that Europe will more actively participate in foreign and security policy, ”the politician said. Therefore, as he pointed out, Berbock’s most important task is to create a format that allows Europe to act from the outside.
