German police registered a total of 9,172 cases of unauthorized border crossings between June 7 and July 19, when border controls were in place as part of the European Football Championship. 275 people suspected of smuggling were detained, the Federal Police Department in Potsdam reported, Day.Az reports, citing TASS.

According to him, in total, German law enforcement officers checked more than 1.6 million people crossing the border during Euro 24. At the borders alone, 11,198 arrest warrants were executed. “This is the result of work adapted to the situation, flexible and prudent,” the German police noted.

Earlier, temporary controls in place during the European Football Championship ended at all internal borders of Germany, including airports. Control will continue at land borders with Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Poland. The aim is to limit illegal migration and combat smuggling. At the border with Switzerland, they will end on December 15, and with the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria – on November 11. From July 20 to September 30, the German authorities introduced temporary controls at the border with France in connection with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

The European Football Championship was held in Germany from June 14 to July 14. In the final match, the Spanish defeated the English with a score of 2:1.
