Researchers from the Technical University of Munich, who worked as part of an international team of scientists, confirmed that there is a secret chamber inside the famous pyramid of Cheops. Using ultrasound, radar and an endoscope, it was possible to prove that a large cavity, the presence of which has been suspected since 2016, really exists, scientists report on the website of the Technical University of Munich on Thursday, March 2nd.

This find is considered special because this pyramid, as one of the seven wonders of the world, has been studied in great detail for many years. However, she still keeps many secrets, one of which the researchers revealed. It is now clear that there is a cavity, and it is located above the original entrance to the pyramid, which is closed to the public.

In 2016, based on several measurements made by Japanese and French experts, there were suggestions about the presence of a camera. Researchers from Munich join the ScanPyramids project in 2019. And now the find has been visualized.

“The pyramids are a World Heritage Site. Therefore, we must be especially careful during the inspection – so that no damage occurs,” explains Professor Christian Grosse. According to him, scientists have to work only with measuring devices that will not harm surfaces, in some cases contactless.

The researchers found a gap into which they managed to insert a hollow rod. This made it possible to penetrate into the cavity and fix its volume with the help of an objective. The secret chamber turned out to be larger than scientists thought. No evidence of human activity was found inside. A group of scientists suggest that no one has seen this room for about 4,500 years. Further research will show exactly what this camera was used for.
