The German singer Schmyt publicly makes allegations of domestic violence against him by his long-term partner in a video statement on Instagram. He expresses that he feels blackmailed – and vehemently denies the allegations. “The only way out of this pressure situation is for me to talk openly about it with you,” he explains in the video.

According to a report from the “Spiegel”, the incident allegedly occurred on August 1, 2023. Schmyt, whose real name is Julian Paul von Dohnányi, is accused of having pressed his partner’s face so hard while she was sleeping that it allegedly caused a bruise. She also reportedly suffered injuries on her upper arm.
From the criminal complaint, a hospital report, and a witness statement that, according to the “Spiegel”, are available, it appears that the partner woke up due to pain. She initially accused her partner of having hit her. The emergency room report noted a “blow to the right cheek” and another blow to the upper arm.
Interestingly, according to the “Spiegel”, the partner changed her statement during a later interrogation. Instead of speaking of blows, she now refers to a “pressing” by Schmyt. She is said to have also expressed that he had increasingly suffered from aggression issues in the months leading up to the incident. The couple had been together for eleven years and has a daughter together.

The 41-year-old Schmyt denies the allegations and describes the relationship as “unhealthy”. He says he allowed his partner to “control and reduce” him. Schmyt has largely lost contact with his friends and family due to the relationship. He describes his partner as very dominating and surveilling. He himself has become increasingly conflict-averse. “The unhappier I became, the tighter her grip became,” he says. “No matter where I turned, eventually I was surrounded by my own relationship.” He also admits in the video to having been unfaithful.

The night before he moved out of their shared apartment, she “made up the story” and “staged” it. “She used this accusation to keep me under control.” He is going public with the story now to reclaim his life and free himself from it.
