BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s Verdi union on Saturday called a one-day strike by air security workers at Berlin airport for Monday amid an ongoing wage dispute, prompting the airport to cancel all passenger departures on date

The strike is scheduled to start at 3:30 am local time on Monday and will end at midnight, the union said.

Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, is experiencing some of the most disruptive strikes in decades this year as unions push for higher wages to offset rising living costs.

The planned action comes after strikes at four other German airports – Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart on Thursday and Friday, when more than 700 departures were cancelled.

The union is negotiating with the aviation safety association BDLS to try to raise wages for night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
