German warships sail through the Taiwan Strait

Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed that two German warships were patrolling the Taiwan Strait. “Yes, I can confirm that,” the minister said Friday in Berlin.

“International water is international water, it is the shortest way, it is the safest way given the weather conditions, and they are international water, so we go through them,” stressed the SPD politician.

The Taiwan Strait is a 180 km long sea between mainland China and Taiwan. China claims the body of water as part of its territory. The same applies to Taiwan.

The ships of the German Navy are the ship “Baden-Württemberg” and the carrier “Frankfurt am Main”.
