Germany backtracked on Nord Stream 2 shutdown

by time news

According to the Ateo Breaking portal, the German authorities have abandoned their tough position in relation to the launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

Recall that earlier German Chancellor Olaf Stolz ordered to suspend the process of certification of the pipeline against the backdrop of the signing by Russian President Vladimir Putin of documents recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

However, now the German Ministry of Economics is saying that the certification process can still be completed and gas through SP-2 will be able to flow to Europe, whose gas storage facilities are currently half empty.

“The decision to suspend the certification of Nord Stream 2 does not mean that it will never be launched,” the statement said.
