Germany: Comirnaty – vaccine for children

by time news

Companies BioNTech and Pfizer have contacted the European Medicines Agency requesting the use of their vaccine against COVID-19 among children aged 5-11 years.

German biotech company BioNTech and US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer have asked European Union regulators to authorize the use of their COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11. This was announced in a joint press release of the companies, published on October 15. The approval will enable the first vaccination in Europe for children in this age group.

Vaccine manufacturers have provided the European Medicines Agency (EMA) with the necessary data, including the results of later stages of research, the report said. Comirnaty has been tested on more than 2,200 children aged six months to 11 years. A smaller dose was used for children than is usually administered to adults. The companies note that the study participants had a “strong immune response.”

A week ago, BioNTech and Pfizer filed similar data with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, the companies plan to contact other regulators in the coming weeks.
