Germany: Consumer goods prices rise sharply in 2021

by time news

At the end of last year, experts noted a rapid rise in consumer prices. According to the Federal Statistical Office, such a sharp jump in recent decades has not been registered.

Thus, the inflation rate in 2021 averaged 3.1 percent. A year earlier, this figure was as much as 0.5 percent lower.

Among the reasons that caused such a strong rise in prices, experts name interruptions in the supply chains of goods, a significant increase in energy resources, as well as a temporary reduction in value added tax. In addition, companies continue to complain about the acute shortage of materials.

The contribution to the rise in prices in Germany was also made by a new tax on CO2 emissions and VAT, which the inhabitants of the country began to pay from the beginning of the year.
