MADRID, 9 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

German security forces have detained a German citizen who worked for the public institution responsible for supplying weapons and other equipment to the Armed Forces on suspicion of passing information to the Russian Intelligence services, as announced on Wednesday by the Prosecutor’s Office

The suspect, identified only as Thomas H. and accused of collaborating with a foreign government, would have contacted the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian Embassy in Berlin on several occasions and “on his own initiative” to offer to collaborate. The contacts began in May and on at least one occasion he passed on information to which he had had access due to his professional activity.

Specifically, this man worked in Koblenz for the Federal Office for Equipment and Information Technologies of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), responsible for equipping the Army and developing defense technology. The suspect has already appeared before the judge and remains in pretrial detention.

The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed in a statement searches at the home and workplace of Thomas H., of whom no further details have been disclosed.
