The federal government and state authorities have adopted another package of measures to combat the pandemic. As expected, there are additional restrictions due to the spread of the mutated Omicron strain. For example, the number of participants in private meetings is even more limited. The measures will come into force no later than December 28. However, in some lands they will be valid from December 24th.
For vaccinated and vaccinated residents of the country, the rules are indicated a little softer: up to ten people can meet together, not counting children under 14 years old. If there are unvaccinated people invited, the meetings should take place with the family. A maximum of two more persons from another household can be invited. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern announced that the new rules will be in effect from 24 December. The restrictions will be introduced earlier due to the unstable epidemiological situation in the federal state.
The Prime Minister of the federal state Manuela Schwesig believes that the closures in the field of culture and recreation will operate throughout the country from December 27.
Another land has announced that new, more drastic measures are being introduced just after Christmas. The tightening of rules for private meetings, adopted by the federal and state governments, are to take effect in Baden-Württemberg immediately after the Christmas holidays. Since the mutated Omicron strain can be transmitted by vaccinated and convalescent people, tightening the rule for private meetings is necessary. “It comes into effect immediately after the Christmas holidays, not December 28,” said Winfried Kretschmann, Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg.
