New Delhi: After America, China’s conflict with Europe has also started increasing. Europe’s largest economy Germany has given another big blow to its largest trading partner China. China had made a deal to buy a subsidiary of the giant auto company Volkswagen. But the German government stopped this deal citing national security. This decision has come at a time when the European Union had recently increased the tariff on China’s electric vehicles. China also took retaliatory action and started investigating the prices of pork from Europe. In this way, the dispute between the two sides has started. Volkswagen Group company MAN Energy Solutions said in June last year that it is selling its gas turbine business to China’s state-owned company CSIC Longjiang GH Gas Turbine Co (GHGT). The German government started its review in September last year. It has been feared that China can use gas turbines in warships. Germany’s Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that his country welcomes foreign investment but technology related to public security should not fall into the hands of countries with which you do not always have good relations. The country’s Interior Minister Nancy Faser has welcomed this decision of the government.

China’s response

China is Germany’s largest trading partner. Last year, trade between the two countries was worth $275.3 billion. But in recent years, relations between the two countries have soured. Germany is promoting local manufacturers and reducing dependence on China. In November 2022, Germany banned the sale of one of its semiconductor factories to a Chinese tech company. Security reasons were also cited in this. The Chinese Foreign Ministry questioned the German government’s decision and said that it was against the politicization of normal commercial relations.
