Stiko’s draft regulation includes vaccinating with a second dose of mRNA vaccine from Moderna or Biontech to better protect against infection. This can be done four weeks after Johnson & Johnson is vaccinated, experts say.
Stiko recommends revaccination in a pandemic for people over 70 years of age, nursing home residents, nursing staff and other employees who have direct contact with patients approximately 6 months after the basic vaccination. The Commission justifies the need for revaccination by the weakening of protection over time. With age, the immune response after vaccination decreases, therefore revaccination is recommended for all people over 70.
For booster vaccinations, Stiko recommends an mRNA-based booster vaccine, regardless of which drug was used for the basic immunization. At the moment, in this way, about 921,000 people have strengthened their protection against coronavirus.
Health expert Karl Lauterbach supported Stiko’s initiative, he tweeted: With this strategy, you can reduce the incidence, avoid massive outbreaks of infection in winter.
