The EMA conducts the final consultation required to approve a vaccine from the manufacturer BioNTech / Pfizer for children over 5 years of age.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to decide today whether the Covid-19 vaccine will be approved for the age group five to eleven.

The EU leadership announced that this issue will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the responsible committee on medicinal products for humans (CHMP) on 25 November. Germany’s acting health minister, Jens Spahn, previously announced that the children’s vaccine would be delivered to EU countries on December 20. Germany will receive 2.4 million doses in the first phase.

The Standing Commission on Vaccinations (Stiko) plans to check the available data and make a recommendation on coronavirus vaccination for children over the age of five by the end of December. At the moment, experts are conducting all the necessary research, said the head of Stiko Thomas Mertens in an interview with the media group Funke. “Our goal is to prepare a recommendation by the end of December, if possible, before the start of the supply of children’s vaccine to the federal states.”
