Despite a slight increase in those wishing to be vaccinated, there are not enough fully accustomed people in Germany. Revaccination is progressing slowly, and the number of infected people in the country is rapidly increasing. Experts talk about the coming extremely difficult winter. Leading German virologist, professor at the University of Bonn, director of the Institute of Virology, Hendrik Streck, believes that without another imposition of restrictions on social contacts, it will be simply impossible to stop the fourth wave of the pandemic.
“We simply cannot do without the fact that the country will reintroduce certain restrictions on contacts and that large events cannot yet be held in their usual form – or, if they can, then only if strict rules are observed,” the expert said in an interview with dpa …
One of the possibilities, according to the virologist, is the requirement to provide a negative version of the PCR test for unvaccinated and rapid antigen test for vaccinated and recovered. That is, it is necessary to test all visitors without exception. The only difference will be that the unvaccinated will need to present a more accurate PCR test result.
Streck recalled that in the summer – in June and July, most experts announced an inevitable increase in the number of infected people in the fall. Many suggested introducing a package of measures necessary to prevent and combat the fourth wave. “Unfortunately, this was not implemented,” summed up Streck.
