After weeks full of headlines about the cost of living, this is important news for Israeli residents. Carrefour’s entry into the Israeli market will create greater competition, and will affect all the chains – including Shufersal, the largest currently on the market, and on the other hand Rami Levy – which until now was considered particularly cheap among the marketing chains. The entry of the competitor is also expected to affect the Yohannoff and Victory chains.

Electra Consumer Products reports today that it has signed an agreement with the retail giant Carpur to open a chain of supermarkets in Israel under the Carpur brand. The franchise agreement was signed one month after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the parties and is valid for a period of 20 years, with automatic extension for another 20 years and the possibility of further extension for the same period of time.

Under the agreement, more than 150 branches of the Pavilion Wines chain will be gradually renovated and adapted to Carrefour branches. The first branches under the Carpur brand will open before the end of 2022 and even before that, the Pavilion Wines Group is expected to start selling Carpur products in its branches.

It was also agreed that Pavilion Wines would be given the opportunity to produce some of the products in Israel and market them under the Carrefour brand. The parties will work in the coming months to regulate the scope of the product range and expand it, to regulate kosher restrictions, to attract the prices of the products and to set the opening dates of the stores accordingly. The franchise will include an initial payment that will be spread over a number of years, plus payments that will be paid as a percentage of the income.

Carrefour is the largest international retailer to date in Israel, with about 13,900 branches and a sales turnover of 81.2 billion euros.
