Atlético conceded a draw against Getafe this Tuesday, during the 18th day. The Ché club disposed of Rayo while Sevilla won for the first time since the change of coach.

Atlético Madrid, which led by two goals thanks in particular to a double from Antoine Griezmann, was held by Getafe (3-3) on Tuesday during the 18th day of the Spanish Championship.

Reduced to 10 after the exclusion of Savic in the 38th minute, Diego Simeone’s team suffered and did not take advantage of the 172nd and 173rd goals from Griezmann (44th, 69th sp), who became co-top scorer of the history of the club with the legend Luis Aragonès. If Morata worsened the score (63rd), neighbor Getafe held on and logically came back to the score through Borja Mayoral (53rd, 90+3 sp) and Rodriguez (87th) thanks to a controlled end to the match. Despite this draw, Atlético temporarily moves to 3rd in the standings, ahead of FC Barcelona tied with 35 points, which hosts Almeria on Wednesday. Getafe is 8th with 26 points.

Everything started well for Atlético, Griezmann, who had been defeated by goalkeeper David Soria a few moments earlier, scored just before the break. At the conclusion of a rapid counter-attack, the “Little Prince” relaxed to volley a cross from Riquelme extended by a little capricious rebound. It was a dear price, as Getafe put intense pressure on Jan Oblak’s goal. Mason Greenwood, dynamiter of the Getafe attack, lacked precision and his shot hit the edge (19th). The enfant terrible of English football, revealed at Manchester United, was in all the good moves of the team which revived him after prosecution for domestic violence and attempted rape of his partner in 2022.

History for Griezmann

It was precisely following an overflow from Greenwood that Getafe came back to level with Diego Simeone’s men, Borja Majoral victoriously recovering, with a lobbed header, the ball returned by Jan Oblak. Twice Greenwood made the Atlético defense break out in a cold sweat without result. Memphis Depay had little success: served on the edge of offside, he fired a sudden shot on which Soria relaxed (28th).

But Morata, barely coming on, put Atlético back in the lead with a diving header which surprised David Soria (2-1, 63rd). While Getafe stormed the opposing goal to equalize, another counter-attack was excellently exploited by the Colchoneros: in an innocuous action, Damian Suarez hooked Mario Hermoso and conceded a penalty awarded after the use of VAR. Without asking any questions, Griezmann then scored his 173rd goal and created a historic moment by becoming joint top scorer in the club’s history with Luis Aragonés, legend of the 1960s and 70s. Oscar Rodriguez reduced the score with a deflected shot by the hero of the evening (86th) and shook the Matelassiers who ended up giving in on a penalty converted by Mayoral, his 12th goal of the season (90th+3).

Earlier in the evening, Valencia FC won on the Rayo Vallecano pitch, thanks to a goal from Canos on the hour mark (1-0). With this success, Ruben Baraja’s men remain in 10th place (23 pts) just ahead of their victim of the evening relegated three lengths. In the other match of the evening, Sevilla FC offered themselves a valuable away success (3-0) with a view to maintaining against Granada, thanks in particular to goals from former Ligue 1 residents Sergio Ramos and Lucas Ocampos.
