The Paris Commercial Court ordered the liquidation of the delivery company, in receivership since March.

In 2021, the delivery of home shopping in fifteen minutes was promised a bright future. But, two years later, it is the berezina for the start-ups which have launched themselves into this niche. The Paris Commercial Court on Wednesday pronounced the judicial liquidation in France of the express delivery companies Getir and Gorillas.

Gorillas has belonged since 2022 to the Turkish giant Getir, whose French subsidiary, in receivership since March, had recently decided to leave the French market. The situation had become difficult for Getir France (Getir, Gorillas and Frichti), which at the end of March totaled 200 million euros in debt, according to AFP, for a turnover of 120.3 million (in 2022). Regarding the fate of Frichti, “The Paris Commercial Court has decided to extend the receivership proceedings until the beginning of October”Getir said.

“Unfavorable contextual environment”

To justify its difficulties, Getir France accuses “an unfavorable contextual environment”, with inflation and regulatory tightening. A reason also given by the French subsidiary of the German group Flink placed in receivership in June.

In fact, in March, the sector suffered a major setback, with the government decreeing that “dark stores” – the premises where products for delivery are stored – were warehouses, not businesses. This paves the way for local regulation of this activity, and even the closure of certain premises. Getir employs 1708 people in France. The court decision enacts the elimination of more than 1,300 jobs. “A plan, worked on by the staff representation, was rendered null and void by the company, which refused to finance it at the last momentexplains Marie-Sophie Vincent, lawyer for the Gorillas CSE. Today, the question is at the level of the PSE and the payment of wages.
