Starting October 3, obtaining a passport in Colombia will be cheaper. This was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Gilberto Murillo, when he announced a 12% reduction in the price of the travel document, from $207,000 to $180,000.
This reduction will also apply to passports issued in border areas, which will go from $125,000 to $100,000.
The chancellor explained that this decision responds to the savings generated in the production and implementation of the new passport model.which will allow us to offer citizens a more affordable price. “We have done the necessary analysis and studies, and we can guarantee a fair price for the passport. Starting October 3, we will reduce its cost by approximately 12%,” Murillo said in an interview with Noticias Caracol.

A call to the departments:
Luis Gilberto Murillo also took the opportunity to call on departmental governments to adjust their rates. According to the foreign minister, in some departments, the cost of a passport can reach $365,000 due to taxes and additional charges. In this regard, he urged local authorities to review their costs and make a reduction similar to the national one, with the aim that the new model has a positive impact on families. Colombians.
“There are departments that charge up to $365,000 for a passport, others charge $350,000. We invite the departments to adjust their prices, following the example of the national government, so that this new model benefits more citizens,” said the foreign minister.
This reduction is in addition to the government’s initiatives to alleviate the costs of essential procedures and bring key services closer to the population, especially at a time when economic recovery remains a priority.
