Get Rich With Ghosts Directed by Nguyen Nhat Trung (Trung Lun) and produced by Bluebells Studio. The film marks the return of Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh after a long absence from the big screen. The film has a fantasy tone, revolving around Lanh (Tuan Tran) – a young man addicted to gambling, making his father – Mr. Dao (Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh) always sad.
One day, Lanh was able to see Na’s (Diep Bao Ngoc) ghost, and from there, he made a deal for Na to help him get rich through gambling. However, Lanh could only earn a maximum of 30 million VND per day if he did not want his family members to have an accident. The incident caused Lanh’s debt to pile up, gangsters beat him up, seized his house, and the father-son relationship gradually broke down.

Get Rich With Ghosts The story revolves around Lanh (Tran Tuan), a young man who is passionate about cockfighting. He wants to earn a large sum of money, so he temporarily puts aside his dream of studying and neglects his job as a construction worker. Every time he loses, Lanh “breaks the bet”, so he is often chased by gangsters. While running away, he accidentally sees the ghost of Na (Diep Bao Ngoc). Lanh makes a deal with Na by helping her find her daughter who has been lost for 25 years, and Na helps him earn money.
This business relationship seems easy but is full of complications. Lanh can only earn less than 30 million VND per day, otherwise his father, Mr. Dao (People’s Artist Hoai Linh), will be in danger of losing his life.
Every time Lanh earned money, Mr. Dao would have an accident, but he was still absorbed in gambling and by the time he realized what he needed to do, all the events and burdens were placed on the shoulders of the person he loved the most – Mr. Dao.
Get Rich With Ghosts touches the audience’s emotions in the first half of the work, that is when the audience laughs. The film has unexpected moments that both contribute to leading the content and create a light and quite “charming” humorous atmosphere.
In the second half of the film, when a series of secrets are gradually revealed, the audience is not only surprised but also sheds tears of sorrow along with the characters. A plus point for the script in the later part is that the plot is arranged quite naturally, reasonably, touching the emotions, not the elephant head and mouse tail style.
Touch the audience’s heart
Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh once again demonstrated his versatile acting talent through the role of Mr. Dao. With his charming, humorous and emotional acting, he breathed life into the character, creating characteristic laughter. Through Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh’s performance, the audience easily sympathized with the difficulties and worries of his only son who got involved in gambling and drug addiction.
The image of Mr. Dao evokes thoughts about the responsibility of parents towards their children and the value of family. By the end of the film, Mr. Dao is willing to give everything he has, health, life and property, in exchange for the health of his son – the only dream of his life. “Although Dad is not perfect, Dad always gives the best to his children.”
The role of Lanh, played by actor (Tran Tuan), also left an impression with the role of a young man full of enthusiasm and kindness. Lanh loved his father, but hid all his feelings and pain in his heart, only hoping that after he passed away, his father would have Aunt Sau to rely on and some money for his old age. Ironically, the more he wanted to make money quickly, the more difficulties came to his father and his family.

Lanh also has dreams and ambitions, but his current circumstances and terminal cancer do not allow him to be a good son to Mr. Dao.
The character’s psychological development is also very well built, when Lanh, from a boy who is irresponsible towards strangers like Na, gradually becomes a boy who understands the pain of others, knows how to love, accept and listen to the people close to him.
The character Na (played by actress Diep Bao Ngoc) is a ghost who carries the pain of loss and longs to see her child once in 25 years.
Na’s story has touched the hearts of many viewers, especially those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The unexpected twist at the end of the film makes us realize that: sometimes the things we are looking for are always very close, knowing how to cherish the present and love the people around us will be the key to help us solve all the deep problems within ourselves.
In addition to the excellent performance of the actors, a huge plus is the script. The script is quite creative, with unexpected humorous situations of daily life and unexpected twists that the audience cannot foresee.
The combination of spiritual and everyday elements created both funny and sad situations, making the audience unable to take their eyes off the screen… In particular, the ending of the film made many viewers cry when Na learned that Lanh was her son, whom Mr. Dao had raised since birth.

Besides the funny scene of Na and Lanh, the touching scene showing the father-son relationship between Mr. Dao and Lanh has received the attention of the audience. On this occasion, Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh shared about the role as well as the profession of “Dao Ti” that the male artist plays.
“When I took on the role of Mr. Dao, I felt I had a lot of experience playing the role of both a priest and a father. Because from the age of 14 to 15, I had already helped people with burials.
I had to spend a lot of time talking with the director and producer to do a good job of the character when introducing Mr. Dao to the audience. Director Trung Lun and I have worked and bonded together for a long time, so this is also an advantage. However, in the film there are very difficult scenes, parts without dialogue that have to be acted with facial muscles and eyes. Trung Lun is a perfectionist, so sometimes I get very “annoyed”, having to do it over and over again without the director “screaming”. That “straining” of the director to bring out a good film segment, a good film to send to you is what Linh feels from Trung”– Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh shared.
To talk about the character Mr. Dao, artist Hoai Linh has 3 keywords: “Religion, Life, Pain. The priest in the film is a man who loves his children, is hard-working and especially, he loves his job very much. He works as a funeral attendant, in the Central region called a funeral worker, a person who specializes in doing burial work. Linh especially appreciates such jobs. Because when you are born, there is a midwife, that is, a midwife, and when you die, there are funeral attendants. Linh tries to do the best job that the brothers and uncles are doing, it can be said that she is satisfied with this role”.
Talking about the title Get Rich With GhostsArtist Hoai Linh shared that he knows many people will wonder why the devil is associated with the phrase “getting rich”. Mr. Dao in the film emphasized:
“That is the hidden meaning in the film: “If you work, you will have food / No one will give you anything for free” – you have to work hard for yourself. Lanh always wants his father to be happy, no longer suffering by “getting rich” – that is the filial piety of children for their parents. Linh and the crew hope that after watching the film, young people will care about their parents, but do good deeds, don’t do wrong things because your parents will also be very upset.”
As shared, Mr. Dao in the movie Get Rich With Ghosts is the role in which artist Hoai Linh was beaten the most. Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh talks more about this:
“When you watch a movie, that moment can be 5-7 seconds, 30 seconds, but in reality, it can take 4-5 hours to 1 session to film that scene. This is something that I have to accept in order to produce the best scene for the audience. There is a torture scene but Linh feels “happy” is the scene where she carries her child on her back…
In addition, there was a scene of carrying the coffin to the burial, Linh felt sorry for the actors. All the actors, including the children and the elderly, carried the coffin back and forth for about 100 meters. A guy in the brass band said, “I’ve played so many concerts, but I’m not as tired as this one” because we filmed from morning to noon, then had lunch and continued filming. Thank you to everyone in this film for cooperating and acting with us, the artists. Whether appearing in one scene, two scenes or in not-so-big scenes, we were very touched and thank you all very much.”
Speaking more about the setting of the house on the banks of the Saigon River, Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh said that he felt that the location was so beautiful, “as soon as I stepped in, I felt happy”: “Linh loves the river and the scenery there, because I like wading in the fields and catching fish, so seeing it near the river made me happy. The setting has contrast, one side is a working-class neighborhood, the other side is so luxurious, beautiful from the set to the view selection. The thing is, every time the tide comes in, everyone sitting down to eat has to stand up or wade in the water, very hard (laughs) but fun”.
Movie Get Rich With Ghosts with the participation of Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh, Tuan Tran, Diep Bao Ngoc, Le Giang, Quang Minh, Hoang Phi, La Thanh,… officially premiered in theaters nationwide on August 30, 2024.
