The investigation authority at the Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered “the detention of the commercial director of Ghadames Airlines for committing an activity harmful to the country’s interests.”
“The Chief Prosecutor, at the Attorney General’s Office, investigated the incident of the company’s aircraft transporting hundreds of people wishing to enter the United States via the Republic of Nicaragua, in violation of the applicable immigration rules. The investigator found that the company had carried out an activity represented in operating flights carrying hundreds of people from East Asian countries without taking into account the obligations of the air carrier and national legislation related to immigration, as well as the requirements arising from ratified international instruments, especially the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime; which caused harm to the interests of the Libyan state, and the investigator decided to order the accused to be detained pending investigation,” the statement published by the office said.
