The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the detention of the commercial director of Ghadames Aviation Company, for committing an activity harmful to the country’s interests.

According to the Attorney General, investigations have proven that the company’s aircraft transported hundreds of people wishing to enter the United States via the Republic of Nicaragua, in violation of immigration rules.

The investigations also revealed that the company did not comply with national legislation related to immigration, as well as the requirements arising from ratified international instruments, especially the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.

The Nicaraguan newspaper “La Prensa” reported that 3 chartered flights were operated from Libya to “Managua” in Nicaragua in less than a month, despite American warnings.

The newspaper added that a Ghadames Airlines plane with a capacity of 400 passengers took off from Mitiga International Airport and landed at Augusto Sandino Airport.

She pointed out that two flights were operated last May from Benghazi, amidst information circulating about the smuggling of immigrants to American territory, noting that these flights were not recorded, unlike other international flights.
