It is the finale of a spectacular and harrowing trial: Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell (60) has been jailed for 20 years for her proven crimes.
Federal judge Alison Nathan (50) decided on Tuesday in court in New York. In doing so, she follows the pleas of the defense for a lenient verdict. Maxwell faced up to 55 years in prison, and the sentence was eagerly awaited.
It was not only about their fate – but not least about justice for their victims.
Already on December 29, 2021 Maxwell was found guilty of five counts.
The former girlfriend of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein († 66) has been in custody for two years after being caught by the FBI.
The Brit was accused of feeding Epstein underage girls between 1994 and 2004. Maxwell is said to have been partially involved in the abuse of the girls.
The last day of the trial was also shocking: at the “hearing” before the sentence was announced, statements by the victims, who were often underage at the time of the crime, were presented again.
The women explained how Maxwell approached them and wormed their trust.
Victim photos show the Maxwell horror
The files on the final day of the trial included dramatic photos showing Maxwell victim Sarah Ransome in the hospital bed after one of two suicide attempts. She had to be ventilated.
Ransome noted in her statement that she was a “sex toy” of Epstein for seven months. She testified that she once even got off Epstein’s private Caribbean island (notorious as “pedophile island”) want to escape – swimming.
