Censorship in Korea: The successful K-pop group GI-dle is releasing a new album – but they are encountering difficulties specifically in South Korea. The Korean Broadcasting Authority, KBS, has announced that it is boycotting the hit group’s new song, called Wife, because of “too sexual lyrics”.

Wife’s lyrics include many metaphors for having sex and caused a scandal upon the song’s release. In addition, the Korean network disqualified another song from the same album on the grounds that it included an unapproved advertisement. GI-dle is one of the most successful Korean pop groups of recent years, with sales of hundreds of thousands of copies in South Korea and abroad. They may consider changing the lyrics if they want to promote them on the Korean broadcast network.
