A cult comedian has passed away…

Gilbert Gottfried has died at the age of 67. This was announced by the family of the “Beverly Hills Cop” star Twitter.

There it says in a statement: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness.”

Continuing, “Gilbert was not only comedy’s most iconic voice, but also a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children.”

Finally: “Although today is a sad day for all of us, please laugh as loudly as you can in Gilbert’s honor. With love, the Gottfried family.”

According to TMZ, which Gottfried’s rep Glenn Schwartz was able to reach, the comedian died of a heart anomaly.

Born in 1955 in Brooklyn, New York, Gottfried began his career at the age of 15 as a stand-up artist performing around the city.

Then in the 80s the big hit with “Late Night with David Letterman”. The comedian was also allowed to take part in the cult show “Saturday Night Live”.

Gottfried was known for his raunchy sayings and his unique voice. In Germany he is known for his role in “Beverly Hills Cop II”.

Gottfried leaves behind his wife Dara Kravitz and their two children Lily (14) and Max (12).
