Gilmour’s Napoli move in doubt after Brighton injury concerns – Football Italia – August 29

by time news

Reports in the UK suggest that Napoli’s bid to sign Scotland international Billy Gilmour is now over, as the Premier League side are concerned about their current midfield options.

News Gilmour to Napoli is out

As reported by The espressoBrighton have decided to pull out of talks with the Partenopei due to a series of injury problems in the midfield department.

Matt O’Riley, who had been linked with a move to Atalanta before joining Brighton from Celtic, was forced off within minutes of making his EFL Cup debut for the Seagulls after picking up a nasty foul, which is likely to keep him out for several months.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler also decided to start Gilmour in their last Premier League game, a 2-1 win over Manchester United. He also came off the bench in the 3-0 win over Everton on the opening weekend of the season.

Napoli had hoped to conclude a deal with Brighton to sign Gilmour for a fee in the region of €15m, but it seems increasingly unlikely that such a move will go through before the summer transfer window closes.

Napoli will officially announce the signing of Gilmour’s international teammate Scott McTominay on Friday, and also confirmed the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea on Thursday.
