A black and ensemble comedy already destined to leave its mark: we are talking about Ginevra Elkann’s new film, I told you, which the director will accompany on Saturday 3 February at the Visionario in Udine (at 7.00 pm) and at Cinemazero in Pordenone (at 9.00 pm) . An unconventional reflection on the climate and social crisis that brings together a cast with a truly capital C: from Valeria Bruni Tedeschi to Valeria Golino, from Alba Rohrwacher to Riccardo Scamarcio, from Greta Scacchi to Danny Huston.

It’s a weekend in January, in Rome, when an anomalous heat wave takes over the city. Over the course of two days the protagonists are put with their backs to the wall, forced to face everything they have skilfully avoided in their lives, accustomed to using sex, food, drugs and even love as a way out. Now they can no longer escape: they have to go through the Roman apocalypse…

If among the sources of inspiration Ginevra Elkann cites «the Altman of America today and the Paul Thomas Anderson of Magnolia», I told you so comes first and foremost from a personal experience: «A few summers ago, while I was working at the mixer, I I felt a terrible heat coming on and I thought about the horror and suffering of being in a yellow world where nature dries up in perpetual heat. The idea remained in my head and, before we went into lockdown due to Covid, I asked Chiara Barzini and Ilaria Bernardini, then screenwriters of the film with me, if they wanted to work on it.” Entering into a situation of discomfort to tell another, of even greater discomfort: “The lockdown helped us in this sense!”.

Director and producer, Ginevra Elkann was born in London in 1979 and has lived in England, France and Brazil. In 2010 you founded the film production company Asmara Films, whose aim is to «promote projects by young authors from all over the world». In 2019 you made your directorial debut with the feature film Magari, the opening title of the Locarno Film Festival and an official selection at the Turin Film Festival. I told you it’s her second feature film.
