The next summer can also be hot. On Monday, Giorgio Armani presented the summer collection for 2024 in his Milan city palace.Giorgio Armani

The young journalists look in awe, the old hands routinely ask. Or rather bunnies, because it seems to be mainly female journalists who determine the fashion press here in Italy. Compared to Germany, that’s amazing.

Only Italian is spoken. Giorgio Armani is seated on a chair, surrounded by his entourage. He has just presented the new Armani men’s collection for summer 2024. On July 11, the fashion maestro will be 89 years old. He seems tidy, ready to joke. What a moment!

Traditionally, Giorgio Armani holds the fashion shows of his eponymous main brand in the basement of his home at 21 Via Borgonuovo. Those who have the honor of being among the few invited guests at the Armani-Palazzo will experience a journey back to the good old days. When there was no social media and fashion journalists were the first to see a collection. When they only had paper and pen and had to take notes in order to be able to describe the new designs as precisely as possible to interested newspaper readers. An oversized pencil stands in the room, on the wall “Giorgio”, Armani’s signature. His writing is as elegant as his fashion.

And then they come, the Armani men. In classic summer clothes, light blazers, shorts and shirts, vests and hats. With slicked back hair and muscular shoulders. Silk scarves and ties are the accessories in fabulous 81 looks. There is bright white, all shades of blue, beige, gray and some graphic patterns. The fabrics flutter luxuriously around the models’ bodies as they walk very slowly down the short catwalk. It’s easy to imagine these Armani men strolling down the hot Milanese pavement shouting “Ciao bella”. Or alternatively “Ciao bello”, depending on.

The show is presented in two runs, as there are no more than 196 armchairs in the stark white room. The guests who sit on it appeared in classic clothes, it almost looks like a business meeting with all the men in Armani suits. And the journalists? They actually take notes and take notes. Nobody streams on Instagram because there is no internet in the room. Yes, it actually feels like time travel. A very wonderful one!
