A six-year-old girl was crushed to death by an elevator in Mexico, now the authorities denounce the company in charge of maintenance.

The emergency occurred on Monday night at hospital number 18 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Playa de Carmen, in Quintana Roo.

According to local media, the little girl was hospitalized with a very delicate case of dengue, but she recovered and was about to be discharged when the tragedy occurred.

Reports indicate that the elevator began to go up with the doors open when the stretcher the girl was on did not fully enter the elevator.

The authorities reported that the minor’s legs were subjected to high pressure against the structure, which ultimately caused her death.

The attached video shows how the staff desperately tries to free her, without obtaining much better results.

The little girl’s parents filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and are asking for justice and for the case to reach its final consequences.

For its part, the Quintana Roo Human Rights Commission filed an official complaint against the IMSS.

While the IMSS accuses the elevator maintenance company Sitravem and removed from office the hospital officials in charge of maintenance.



For her part, a doctor from the hospital released a video on social networks that shows that the elevator had already had operating problems since 2019, which has generated more controversy in the public health system.

The state governor, Mara Lezama, urged the Prosecutor’s Office to carry out a timely, prompt and expeditious investigation so that the culprits are held accountable.

While the community of Yucatan, hundreds of people attended the funeral of the little girl to give her a holy burial, with flowers and songs they paid a great tribute to her.
