Girls Band Cry Expands Universe with Manga, Webtoons, Games, and New Film

Toei Animation is aggressively expanding the reach of its popular Girls Band Cry franchise, announcing a multifaceted rollout of new content including a manga adaptation, a webtoon series, multiple game adaptations, and a forthcoming anime film. The moves signal a significant investment in the property and a strategy to engage a wider global audience.

Manga and Webtoons to Broaden Appeal

A manga adaptation of Girls Band Cry, penned by Iseebi Boil, debuted on January 30 on the Comic Ride and RaiComi websites. New chapters will be released weekly on Fridays, offering fans a new way to experience the story. Simultaneously, Toei Animation is partnering with A.Tempo Media to produce a Girls Band Cry webtoon. According to a company release, the webtoon is specifically designed to introduce the series to new audiences worldwide.

Film Success and Continued Production

Previously, Toei Animation released Girls Band Cry: Naa, Mirai. (Hey, Future.), a compilation film, in Japanese theaters on November 14, 2025. The film featured a performance of the theme song “Arrow” by TOGENASHI TOGEARI and brought back the core voice cast, including RINA as Nina Iseri, Yuri as Momoka Kawaragi, Mirei as Subaru Awa, Natsu as Tomo Ebizuka, and Syuri as Rupa. Kazuo Sakai directed the compilation movies, with Jukki Hanada handling series composition. Nari Teshima served as character designer, while Daiki Nakazawa and Jae Hoon Jung oversaw CGI direction. Kenji Tamai composed the music, and Yūsuke Tanaka was responsible for the background score.

Notably, a new Girls Band Cry anime movie is currently in development, building on the momentum of the previous film release.

Gaming Expands the Interactive Experience

During Tokyo Game Show 2025, Toei Animation and Donuts unveiled Girls Band Cry First Riff, a brand-new game adaptation of the series. Additionally, the 2D platforming game Momoka (o) Wasshoi (MOMOMAA iveve-ho) launched on September 28, 2025, for PC via Steam. While the game is available globally, it currently does not support English language options. A chart detailing regional sales of the Steam game would be beneficial here.

Anime Premiere and Streaming Availability

The original Girls Band Cry anime series premiered in Japan on April 5, 2024, with an English-language release following in August 2024 via digital platforms in North America. All 13 episodes are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
