The campsites in the demarcation of Girona every time they register more reservations outside the summer season. This was confirmed by the businessmen of the Girona Camping Association at the annual meeting held this Tuesday afternoon. The president of the association, Miquel Gotanegra, assures that since Easter they already have good employment figures, especially for the senior tourists who have grown in recent years. In addition, Gotanegra assures that the season “gets longer and longer after the summer” and this allows them to have very high employment figures in September. On the other hand, the employers say that they plan to close the season with some similar figures to last year.

Throughout this Easter, the Girona campsites announced that they were registering this season good data of employment of foreign tourists who chose to come to the Costa Brava out of season. This allows employers to open more months, beyond the summer months. Now, this occupation has consolidated and business owners say they are noticing an increase in visitors helping them fill the gap that existed until now between Easter and the summer months.

These are, in many cases, senior tourists who choose to come to Girona out of season to take advantage of the fact that there are still no people but the weather is softer than in their country of origin. This means that all Girona campsites have been open since May, and some are betting on having their doors open all year round. For the president of the Girona Camping Association, Miquel Gotanegra, this is an important step since the tourism sector has been working for “many years” for the deseasonalization and they are finally getting it.

Tourist attractions all year round

According to the president, part of the merit of this deseasonalization is the fact of having shown the visitors all tourist attractions which has the demarcation and which can be done outside the summer months. Gotanegra has remembered that there is one patrol path network which allow people to walk and visit unknown beaches and coves, among other attractions. On the other hand, the president believes that the events organized by the campsites in the low season have also contributed to the attraction of foreign visitors.

Beyond the good records during April and May, the Girona campsites warn that the level of reservations they have for the whole of September is also important and this means that they can extend the tourist season until the beginning of autumn. These forecasts, together with the reservations they have for June, July and August, predict that the Girona campsites will close the curtain at the end of the season with a similar employment balance to that of last year.

In fact, in 2022 campsites equaled the figures of 2019, before the pandemic. These good results are due to the return of foreign tourists. Throughout 2020 and 2021, visitors from outside the State recorded a large decrease due to the restrictions of covid-19 and also due to the fear that had been transmitted among society to be infected. In 2022, foreign tourism already recovered and this 2023 is expected to consolidate the return of this international visitor.

Half of the campsites are over 50 years old

These figures have been announced at the extraordinary annual meeting held by the Girona Camping Association, which this year was held at the La Ballena Alegre campsite in Sant Pere Pescador. In this meeting, the entrepreneurs wanted to recognize the campsites Castell Montgrí de l’Estartit, Nàutic Almatà and Mas Nou, in Castelló d’Empúries. All three have completed 50 years of history this 2023.

The three establishments add to the 36 that they had passed this birthday previously. In fact, 55% of the associates of the Girona organization have more than half a century of experience. The assembly also took the opportunity to acknowledge the vice-president of the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board, Jaume Dulsat, for the support he has given them throughout all these years in office.

The day ended with a paper on water and tourism and a workshop was also held for those responsible for animation, reception and activities at the campsites. The workshop was run by the University of Girona and had the collaboration of the Gala Salvador Dalí Foundation. In this workshop they were presented places and cultural proposals of more interest and importance that can be visited in the regions of Girona.
