Girona hotels receive 18% more tourists in April than before the pandemic

The hotels of the Girona counties received up to 409,654 tourists in April, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). If we compare these data with the figures achieved a year ago, Girona establishments accommodated 24.3% more travelers, in April 2022 there were 329,552.

The data are also better than those recorded before the outbreak of the pandemicas of April 2019. That year Girona hotels received 346,980 travelers, 18% less than this year. Of the total number of tourists, in April Girona’s hotels accommodated 191,185 travelers with residence in Spain and 218,469 foreign tourists.

Overnight stays are also increasing. This type of establishment registered 1,029,727 overnight stays, 24.76% more than a year ago and 3% more than 2019.

17% year-on-year in Catalonia

Overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 17.19% year-on-year in April, up to 4.8 million. On the other hand, travelers reached 1.88 million, 17.27% more than the same month last year.

Lleida was the only Catalan province where both travelers and overnight stays decreased in the fourth month of the year, with 4.15% and 8.74% less, respectively. In Tarragona the increases were 19.8% in travelers and 29.9% in overnight stays, while in Barcelona, ​​15.6% and 13%.

In Spain as a whole, they increased by 20.9% in the first four months of the year and exceeded those of the same period in 2019. British and Germans concentrate the majority of overnight stays in Spain in establishments that have average turnover increased by 8.8%. During the month of April, overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments exceeded 28 million, which represents an increase of 11.5% compared to the same month in 2022, when there were 25.1 million. In addition, they are higher than those of the same month in 2019. Overnight stays by travelers resident in Spain exceeded 10.7 million, which represents 38.4% of the total.

For their part, those of non-residents were above 17.3 million. Last April, the average stay in hotels in Spain decreased by 1.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 2.9 overnight stays per traveler. Travelers from the United Kingdom and Germany concentrated 22.1% and 18.3%, respectively, of the total overnight stays of non-resident travelers in Spanish hotel establishments.
