Girona hotels start the year with fewer tourists than before the pandemic

The hotels Girona received 456,422 tourists during the first quarter of the year, 11.7% more than last year, when the number of visitors was 408,484 people. Regarding the data recorded during the month of March, the number of travelers in the hotels of the Girona regions has fallen by 21.7% compared to the pre-pandemic figures. On the other hand, this type of accommodation registered up to 26% more tourists this March than a year ago.

The average daily rate for hotels in Girona during March was 71.40 eurosbelow the Catalan average (114.11 euros) and the national average (99.32 euros).

As for overnight stays in March, they have increased by 30.9% year-on-year, while falling by 17% compared to the same month in 2019. However, this year the average stay was 2.22 nights per travelerabove that recorded last year and 2019, both of 2.14 nights per tourist.

The Costa Brava, protagonist

Up to 78% of travelers who have stayed in Girona hotels during the first quarter of the year have chosen establishments of the Costa Brava. The hotels on the Girona coast received 356,770 tourists in the first three months of the year – 182,611 residents of Spain and 174,159 foreigners – 17.5% more than last year, but 9% less than the first quarter of 2019, when hotels on the Costa Brava registered up to 389,107 travelers.

As for Catalonia, hotels received 1,293,840 tourists during March, 5% less than the same month in 2019 and 27% more than a year ago. In Spain, during the month of March, hotels received more than 7.3 million travelers and recorded 20.6 million overnight stays, 17.1% more than in the same month of 2022, when there were 17, 6 million, according to INE data.
