Still as attractive in the game, Girona signed a prestigious victory on Sunday in the Catalan derby on the pitch of FC Barcelona (4-2) and regained the lead in La Liga alone. The dream continues: three days before the end of the first leg, the small Catalan club, bought in 2017 by the City Football Group, the Emirati parent company of Manchester City, is first in La Liga ahead of the big boys from Spain.
This 13th victory in 16 days allows the Gironistes to regain their leadership position with two lengths ahead of Real Madrid, held in check on Saturday by Betis Sevilla (1-1), and seven ahead of Atlético Madrid (3rd) and Barça (4th).
The visitors opened the scoring with their Ukrainian striker Dovbyk (12th) before Lewandowski (19th) equalized.
