Assemblywoman Requests Follow-up on Impeachment of Prosecutor
On August 9, 2024, Assemblywoman Gissela Garzon of the Citizen Revolution party requested that the Legislative Administration Council (CAL) take “treatment and follow-up”> to the impeachment process against Prosecutor Diana Salazar.</p>
Garzon is the proponent of the first impeachment request against Salazar, who is accused of neglecting her duties in cases related to the 2019 national strike, the Encuentra Case, and the Ina Papers.
Note that the CAL previously suspended the impeachment trial in May 2024 due to Salazar’s high-risk pregnancy. The process will resume once her health condition is resolved.
In a letter to CAL President Henry Kronfle, Garzon requested that the body address the impeachment process during the upcoming session.
Kronfle confirmed that the CAL has received Garzon’s request but declined to provide further details as the meeting was closed.
Garzon emphasized the importance of maintaining oversight of the impeachment process and ensuring its proper handling.
