Memorable ceremony in Gitega: President Ndayishimiye galvanizes the nation during Independence festivities
Gitega, July 1, 2023 – Under the auspices of the Presidency of Burundi, a day full of emotions marked this Saturday the celebrations of the 61st anniversary of the country’s Independence. The festivities began with a laying of wreaths at the monument dedicated to the Hero of Independence, Muganwa Rwagasore. Subsequently, His Excellency Ndayishimiye Evariste, Major General and Head of State, entered the Ingoma Stadium, where thousands of Barundi were waiting for him to celebrate this historic event.
During his speech marking the occasion, the president recalled the theme of the 61 years: “All together, let us contribute to the economic recovery of the country to achieve effective independence.“He urged Barundis to redouble their efforts, stressing that economic independence is essential for genuine national independence. As commander-in-chief of the Defense and Security Forces, he also reviewed his troops, congratulating the defense and security bodies that ensure the protection of the country against aggressors.
The president called on political and administrative leaders to work hand in hand with the population, taking the example of the Bami of Burundi who loved all the Burundian people without favoritism. Addressing the judiciary, he urged them to dispense fair justice. Finally, the ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to various personalities who have distinguished themselves in the protection of national heritage, the defense of peace and security, as well as in their love for the homeland.
