Supported by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, this partnership, signed during the second edition of GITEX Africa, aims to support the development of innovative startups by offering them an opportunity for immersion and mentoring at Yellow Park, Glovo’s headquarters in Barcelona, Glovo said in a press release.
The program, whose first edition is scheduled for the end of September, will take place over a week. It is designed for pre-seed startups operating in various sectors such as mobility, logistics, food technology, retail-tech, e-commerce and fintech.
The selected startups will benefit from personalized support from Glovo senior executives in Barcelona and an enriching networking experience with players in the Spanish ecosystem.
According to the press release, the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Ghita Mezzour, said during the signing ceremony: “This program will allow the supported Moroccan startups to grow and internationalize. In addition, it will encourage the sharing of knowledge and best practices, thus contributing to an environment conducive to the emergence of advanced technological solutions adapted to market needs.”
In the same vein, Sacha Michaud, co-founder of Glovo, shared his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, 212 Founders, Startgate and Technopark to offer this exceptional program. We aspire to catalyze the growth of the startups that will benefit from the program, by making our expertise available to them and by forging synergy links within the Mediterranean entrepreneurial ecosystem.”
The selection criteria for startups prioritize innovation, sustainability and the ability to scale, among other aspects. The selected startups will have the opportunity to participate in an immersion week, during which they will benefit from workshops led by specialists from the company and other actors from the Spanish ecosystem, focused on specific topics determined in collaboration with the program partners.
As a reminder, Glovo is one of the first Spanish startups to achieve unicorn status, with a valuation of 1 billion euros. Since its creation in 2014, the platform has grown rapidly, expanding to 23 countries and choosing Morocco as its gateway to Africa five years ago. In 2022, Glovo was acquired by the German group Delivery Hero for 2.3 billion euros, the press release concludes.
