Gitex Africa: launch of the African Federation of Digital Enterprises
Marrakech – The African Federation of Digital Enterprises (FAEN) was launched on Thursday in Marrakech, at the initiative of the Federation of Information, Telecommunications and Offshoring Technologies (APEBI) and professional organizations of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria and Rwanda.
This initiative, launched on the sidelines of Gitex Africa 2024, marks an important step towards promoting a collaborative approach in the co-construction, by public authorities and the private sector, of an inclusive digital ecosystem across the African continent, it is indicated in a press release.
Through the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, the founding members of FAEN commit to promoting universal access to digital technologies, supporting entrepreneurship and local innovation, developing skills and training, promoting digital financial inclusion and encouraging appropriate governance and legislation.
They also commit to harmonizing digital regulations and facilitating regional telephone communications, cross-border e-commerce and digital services exchanges across African borders and to creating an e-commerce platform in relation to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
These missions aim to create an enabling environment where the digital economy can thrive in an equitable and inclusive manner, ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation are in line with the African Union’s 2063 plan, the statement said.
At the end of their work, a team was formed to finalize the documents establishing FAEN, whose head office will be based in Morocco.
