GitHub decided not to block Russian developers

by time news

GitHub, the largest web service for hosting IT projects, refused to block Russian developers. Users of the service argued for a week whether developers from Russia should be banned because of the military operation in Ukraine. However, the GitHub team has stated that they have no plans to do so.

“GitHub is a home for all developers, wherever they are,” the service says in a message.

“We also take seriously our responsibility to scrutinize government regulations to make sure our users and customers are not restricted in their work. This includes protecting open collaboration and the free flow of information in our interconnected community to support communications, humanitarian action, and organizational change,” GitHub said.

Earlier, the streaming service Netflix refused to broadcast Russian TV channels, and Spotify closed its office in Russia. Against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, many Western companies have announced the termination or suspension of their activities in Russia.
