The Drug Control Division has registered a case against the medical shop which dispensed the drug. The action was taken against a private medical shop in Edavanna on the complaint of an Edavanna resident.

The young woman, who was being treated by a doctor at a private hospital, was prescribed medication to maintain her pregnancy. According to the prescription, he felt unwell after taking two pills of the medicine bought from a private medical shop in Edavanna and was admitted to a private hospital. Subsequent examination revealed that the medicine was dispensed from the medical shop.

The District Drugs Inspector said that the examination revealed that the sale of Schedule H abortion drugs, which should be sold only with a doctor’s prescription, was done unwisely by the institution and not under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. M.C. Nishit said.

Abortion drugs, bills and other documents sold from the establishment were taken into custody. Manjeri Chief Judicial Magistrate presented the documents to the court. The company was prosecuted under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. As part of the follow-up investigation, the complainant’s home and private hospital were searched and further evidence was collected.
