The Minister of Energy and Mines (e) Roberto Luque carried out a reconnaissance at the Termogas Machala Power Plant located in the province of El Oro, where the sixth press conference with the media was held.
The Secretary of State indicated that the infrastructure has a potential for 480 megawatts (MW), however, at the moment it approximately has a generation of 100 MW, that is, it is currently 25% operational. The minister, who was accompanied by the Secretary of the Administration of the Presidency, Arturo Félix, and the Governor of El Oro, Jimmy Blacio, also detailed several solutions to make the thermal plant 100% operational, such as, for example:
• Have seven TM machinery to reach 60 MW and fix those that are inoperative to reach an additional 80 MW.
• In parallel work to reactivate the steam turbine.
• Gas supply alternatives, such as exploiting the Campo Amistad field and importing gas.
“We work simultaneously on different axes, we are analyzing all the proposals to know which are the best and we are working on an estimate of the energy supply and demand for the remainder of the year, which is calculated with an approximate flow rate,” said engineer Luque. . On the other hand, Minister Luque highlighted that yesterday at the Álvaro Tinajero plant, an additional 20 MW were installed, which is very good news, since they have been reactivated after 4 years. Likewise, the authority indicated that it hopes to put 100 MW into operation in one or two weeks at the Enrique García plant for the benefit of citizens. In this regard, the Secretary of State indicated: “We are going to visit all the plants in Ecuador, where we have an inventory of inoperative megawatts to analyze where maintenance or new installations are required.”
He also added: “We are not indolent with the people, this is an energy crisis and that is why we are analyzing all the options to put into operation the megawatts that we can. What is needed is decision.” In the conversation, the authority stressed that the daily deficit has decreased since last week and that as this pattern continues, the hours of cuts will be more stable and with better planning. “Fortunately the rain in recent days has allowed the Paute and Mazar reservoirs to be full. “We have smaller deficits than last week,” said the minister. The National Government, through this State portfolio, works on the implementation of concrete measures aimed at regularizing the electrical service in Ecuador, since citizens deserve a safe, continuous and reliable supply. The Ministry of Energy and Mines, through all its affiliated companies, works tirelessly to normalize the electrical service as soon as possible to guarantee the well-being and security that Ecuadorians need.
