The Tamil Nadu government announced that whole sugarcane will be given in the Pongal prize package, which is a victory for the AIADMK general secretary and the farmers’ struggle.
Pongal Gift Package Rs. 1000 cash, one kg of tamarind and sugar was announced earlier. Against this announcement, farmers and various ruling party leaders insisted that sugarcane should be given in the Pongal gift package this year.
Also, Edappadi Palaniswami, who condemned the announcement, said that the ration card holders will get Rs. 5000 and demanded full iron ore. He had announced that a demonstration would be held in Tiruvannamalai on January 2 to protest against the non-distribution of sugarcane in the Pongal gift package.
In this case, Chief Minister Stalin held a consultation with Ministers Periyakaruppan, Chakrapani and senior officials at the Secretariat today. After this, Chief Minister Stalin announced that the Pongal gift package will include a whole sugarcane to all rice family card holders and families living in Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camps.
