Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Mönchengladbach closed the third consecutive financial year with a double-digit million loss.

In 2022, the minus was 24.51 million euros with sales of 177.3 million euros (2021: 169.1 million). This was announced by Managing Director Stephan Schippers at the general meeting in Borussia Park. The club has thus made a loss of around 55 million euros since the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020, and equity fell from 103 million euros to 46 million euros during this time.

Nevertheless, Schippers is confident about the future. “Of course it’s not nice, but we will achieve the turnaround in 2023 and be in the black again,” said the 55-year-old. “Everything could have turned out differently. We have to be satisfied with that. We are capable of action,” said Schippers.

With almost 30 million euros, the TV funds suffered the greatest loss of income due to the television contract with less money. However, the Gladbachers were able to generate higher income in all other areas. The 7.5 million euro commitment and the separation from coach Adi Hütter as well as the Corona games in front of empty ranks at the beginning of last year also had an impact. Personnel expenses caused the highest costs at 103.24 million euros. (dpa)
