This is according to data published by the semiconductor industry association SEMI. A total of 3,649 million square inches of wafers were sold this quarter

Worldwide silicon wafer shipments reached a new record high of 3,741 million square inches (MSI) in the third quarter of 2022, up 1% quarter-over-quarter and up 2.5% from 3,649 MSI recorded in the same quarter last year, according to the Silicon Manufacturers Group’s quarterly analysis Semiconductor (SMG) of the silicon wafer industry.

“While the semiconductor industry has faced macroeconomic headwinds, the silicon industry continues to show quarter-on-quarter increases in shipments,” said Anna-Reika Varikari-Antikkainen, Chairman of SEMI SMG and Chief Commercial Officer at Okmetic. “Because the role of silicon wafers is fundamental in the broader recycling industry, we remain confident in our outlook for long-term growth.”
