Global use of plastics on the rise: OECD new report!

by time news

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) estimates that less than 10 percent of the world’s used plastic is recycled.

According to a new report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, about 460 million tonnes of plastic was used last year alone.

According to the OECD, this number has more than doubled since 2000. Of the recycled plastic used in this way, less than 10 per cent is recycled.

It is reported that 19 per cent of the plastic waste left over from recycling will be incinerated and 50 per cent will be taken to sanitary lands.

The OECD also said that the remaining 22 percent of plastic materials are dumped in unregulated bins and open spaces and mixed with the environment.

However, the OECD said in a statement that although the use of plastics fell by 2.2 per cent during the corona spread period, the amount of disposable plastics increased.

It is noteworthy that in the face of widespread global warming and pollution, it is important for the world community to respond with integrated and global solutions, OECD Secretary-General Matthias Gorman said in a statement.
