Climate change is considered one of the major issues currently plaguing the world. According to the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the average temperature on Earth increased by 0.8° over the last 100 years. A UN report indicates that over the past 150 years, average temperatures worldwide have increased by about 1°C, passes Day.Az with reference to Trend.
According to experts, if the temperature on Earth continues to rise at this rate, then by 2050 it could rise by 2 – 2.5 degrees, and by 2100 – up to 6 degrees.
Global warming is a process associated with an increase in the average temperature of the Earth, and this phenomenon has a number of causes and consequences.
Main causes of global warming:
Human activities: Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and other greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere from industrial activities, transportation, and energy production contribute to global warming.
Deforestation: Forests absorb carbon emissions, and fewer forests mean more carbon in the atmosphere.
Agriculture: Farming practices increase emissions of greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide.
Consequences:
Climate change: Global warming is causing the weather to become more variable and extreme weather events (hurricanes, floods, droughts) to become more frequent.
Rising sea levels: Melting glaciers and rising sea temperatures are raising sea levels, putting coastal areas at risk.
Declining Biodiversity: Many species cannot adapt to global warming and this may lead to their extinction.
Health concerns: Climate change may lead to the spread of new diseases as well as food safety issues.
How to prevent:
Renewable Energy Sources: The use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydropower should be increased.
Energy efficiency: New technologies and methods need to be introduced to reduce energy consumption in industry and homes.
Forest conservation: Reforestation and restoration projects can help prevent the climate problem from getting worse.
Global initiatives: International agreements such as the Paris Climate Agreement are important in the context of preventing global warming.
Global warming is a serious problem for all countries of the world and it requires collective efforts to combat it. Every individual, community and government has a role to play in this matter.
In particular, in Azerbaijan over the past 100 years, the average annual temperature has increased by 0.4-1.30°C. Against the background of global climate change, Azerbaijan is exposed to such climatic phenomena as floods, avalanches, hurricanes, strong winds, heat, drought, melting glaciers, salinization, soil degradation, desertification, reduction of precipitation and water resources, etc. Azerbaijan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030.
Climate policy, energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy are important to combat global warming. Developing disaster preparedness plans and raising public awareness are important. Global cooperation and support are vital in the fight against climate change.
