/ Gold prices witnessed little change on Tuesday, as investors refrained from making big bets ahead of a report on inflation in the United States that may provide a new perspective on the timing of the first interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve.

Spot gold was steady at $2,018.71 an ounce by 0424 GMT, after briefly falling to a more than two-week low of $2,011.72 on Monday.

US gold futures were little changed at $2,032.30 an ounce.

Trading volume is expected to be thin with markets in China and Hong Kong closed for the Lunar New Year holiday.

All eyes are on US CPI inflation data for January, due at 1330 GMT.

Among other precious metals, platinum was steady at $888.89 an ounce, palladium rose 1.5 percent to $905.71 and silver rose 0.1 percent to $22.71.
